Sherlock Holmes News, Minor Picture Update!

Heelloo there, Donnia here. :) I know there hasn't been much news or updates on RDJ (or maybe I'm just being lazy), but that changes today! :D
According to EmpireOnline, Sherlock Holmes 2 is getting a start date! Yay!

It's been all quiet on Baker Street lately, but not for too much longer. According to Dr. Watson himself, Jude Law, cameras will start rolling on Sherlock Holmes 2 substantially earlier than the mooted December start date. 

Talking us through his chockers-looking schedule for the rest of the year, Law revealed that principal photography will kick off in the autumn. "It looks likely that we're going to shoot the second Sherlock Holmes in October," he told Empire's own Damon Wise, suggesting that Guy Ritchie and his writers aren't too far off a completed script and some intriguing casting announcements.

So who will be stepping into Mark Strong's brogues to provide Victorian London with a little violent psychopathy? “I don't know yet where the story will go,” Law told us, “but there are a lot of Sherlock Holmes novels to choose from.”

Law was making an appearance at the 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival to accept the prestigious Festival President's Award, a very fetching metal and glass statuette, and introduce a screening of Anthony Minghella's The Talented Mr. Ripley, the film that arguably put him on the movie map. But in his downtime, he was able to fill us in on the projects he has in the pipeline: after a relative break from the spotlight this year, he's about to start three very impressive movies back to back.

"I've had a long period of doing nothing, which has been self-imposed and wonderfully rewarding, I have to say, but mostly so because I've got a very busy second half of the year coming up. I'm working with [Martin] Scorsese on his new film Hugo Cabret, which I believe is his first film for children. I don't want to give too much away, but I play Hugo Cabret's father." Then comes Sherlock Holmes 2, followed by Steven Soderbergh's actioner Contagion. "It's an ensemble piece about the spread of a H1N1-type disease on an international scale. So it's going to be a very busy second half of the year; very lazy first half of the year.”

When Empire visited the set of the first Sherlock Holmes two years ago, there was some concern from the key players that the film would make enough money to convince Warners to make another. Law, however, claims he was unaffected. “I had so much fun making Sherlock Holmes that the question of how much money it would make just wasn't one of my priorities,” he told us. “Of course I was really pleased it was such a success but mostly because that will give me the opportunity to work with Robert and Guy again.”

Sounds great, right? Yes!

Rob was seen buying Avengers comics on June 2. Looks like someone's trying to catch up ;)

Hey all! Olivia here! Yes, I will admit. I had forgotten this little gem of a website. But I am here now, and I bring news :)

So, unless you have been living under a rock for the past few weeks (i'm not here to judge) you have probably been hearing a lot of rumors involving RDJ and various movies.
The newest and biggest rumor is Robert staring in a movie named Oz: The Great and Powerful. Oz is said to be a prequel to Wizard Of Oz, and will be directed by Sam Raimi. Robert would be playing Oz before he became the great and powerful wizard he was in WoO. I personally would love to see Robert as this character, but Sam Raimi and the idea of messing with Wizard of Oz rubs me the wrong way.

This is what he said about the project at the Gene Siskel Film Institute when he accepted their Renaissance Award. This is from the Chicago Tribune:



When asked about reports linking him to the role of the Wizard in Disney's "Wizard of Oz" prequel, "Oz: The Great and Powerful," the 45-year-old actor said he "might" be on board the 3-D film.

“Now Sam Raimi looks like he’s going to be at helm of it,” said Downey, who attended the benefit with his wife and Schaumburg native Susan. “My management firm says it might be a go. I’ll hook up with Sam and see what he thinks.”

The next movie idea floating around is for a little film named Gravity, which Robert has been rumored to play a supporting role in. Honestly? I have no idea what the news on this is. I'm not even really sure what's it about. I think something about space and NASA and whatnot.

And last, but certainly not least is the thought of Robert playing Edgar Allen Poe in a movie. Which. I. Would. Love. But it's the one least likely of coming true. Robert has shown his interest in it, as well as Sylvester Stallone (who wrote the script and wants to direct), but the only problem is getting the idea off the ground. I really hope this movie pulls through. RDJ playing Poe sounds brilliant, and Scorsese has even called Stallones script "Oscar worthy"

Seems that everyone wants a piece of Downey! Plus we still have Due Date, Sherlock 2, AND AVENGERS!<3 So expect to be seeing a lot of Robert soon!

Splice Premiere, Guys Choice!

Hey guys, guess what? You guessed right! RDJ sightings! *squeal* :D I just found these pictures of Rob at the premiere of Splice on June 3:

With Iron Man 2 set to kick off the summer movie season on May 7 (and rule the box office with an iron fist), several of the movie’s key players — including stars Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, and director Jon Favreau — got together for a spirited and superpowered roundtable. Among the many behind-the-scenes revelations: Mickey Rourke, who plays Russian villain Ivan Vanko, insisted on having the Amy Winehouse song “Rehab” blasting during his character’s first big confrontation with Downey’s Tony Stark. “Mickey likes a little psychological warfare,” Downey says, laughing. “I always thought, Why is he coming at me with, ‘They tried to make me go to rehab’? I’m here with my Chinese herbs, sitting in the corner.” Here are a few more choice bits from the roundtable interview:

Johansson on first glimpsing her Black Widow costume: “What went through my head? I thought it looked tight. Incredibly, incredibly tight.”

Favreau on being the underdog superhero franchise: “We’re kind of the class clown. I like that better than being the captain of the football team. It was a godsend when The Dark Knight came out and however good we were reviewed, they were reviewed better; however much we made, they made more.”

Downey on further exploring his character’s demons: “The last time around, Tony Stark was a significantly cooler version of me. In a way, my calling in this one was to bring more of myself into it and more of my character defects.”

Men's Journal Interview, Iron Man-related news.

Donnia here! I have an interview from Men's Journal where Rob talks about martial arts, being an actor and...other stuff! :D

On advice for practicing Wing Chun, a martial arts discipline:
“Seriously, don’t worry about looking like an idiot. It’s like life: The less self-conscious you are, the better it works. And remember, lots of ice and Advil afterward. Trust me on that one.”

On how Wing Chun helps him cope:
“This is all about focus. Wing Chun teaches you what to concentrate on, whether you’re here or out in the world dealing with problems. It’s second nature for me now. I don’t even get to the point where there’s a problem.”

On being reluctant to punch a stuntman full in the mouth while filming Sherlock Holmes:
“I was like, ‘I can’t or he’s not going to be able to play with his kids this weekend.’ And Guy (Ritchie) was basically saying, ‘He doesn’t have any kids.’ ”

On if he is worried about burnout from filming and promoting films:
“You don’t worry about something that has already happened,” he says with resignation. “You don’t need to worry about your car breaking down when you’re already on the side of the street with the hood up. Worrying is done. The hubcaps have already come off going around the corners.”

On being an actor:
“This is still art for commerce, at best. I consider myself to be a pain-in-the-ass artist who’s self-aware enough to still be tolerable. While I have a little bit of juice, I try not to rub it in anyone’s face, because it’s just disgusting. And I use the term ‘artist’ loosely.”

On his Iron Man character Tony Stark’s relationship with his dead father:
“We’re having Tony go back and really deal with the ramifications of his lack of connection to his dad, his almost professional-stock, prop-smile answers, and how he’d been using Dad’s memory as a weapon against others. He’s really feeling hugely conflicted by assumptions about his dad’s feelings about him and whether or not there’s any real connection between them at the most basic level, which is: You’re not here anymore for this. Is there something you have for me, is there something you left for me, is there some sort of bread-crumb trail I can find that will help fill me at this point in my life?”

Eric Oram, Downey’s Wing Chun instructor, on working with the actor:
“When he first came to me, insurance companies wouldn’t bond him for movies; he couldn’t get roles. I told him if he didn’t show up to a lesson, I was going to chop off his toes and feed them back to him. One day he didn’t turn up, and I told him goodbye. Then he had a couple of producers call me and vouch for him, saying, ‘He was with us in a meeting; he didn’t have a phone. It’s our fault. Don’t cut his head off.’ He has committed himself to it ever since and turned his life around.”

Guy Ritchie, on working with the actor:
“The word to describe Robert is hard. I know that’s fucking ridiculous in describing an actor, but he really can scrap. He’s done time in jail, which didn’t exactly soften him up. He has a real physicality that is pretty fucking amazing.”

Also in some IM-related news, it looks like Joss Whedon will be directing The Avengers!
From deadline.com:

"I'm told Marvel Studios is in final negotiations for Buffy the Vampire Slayer series architect Joss Whedon to direct Marvel Studios' The Avengers. That's the fast-tracked film that would amount to an all-star team of Marvel superheros, including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), as well as SHIELD leader Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Other signature superheros will likely be involved, but I've listed the actors in active superhero duty. Whedon has been rumored for this job for awhile, and is high on the fanboy wish-list. He's an interesting choice: despite his writing/producing TV series resume, his lone feature directing effort, Serenity, was not a hit. After Iron Man 2, Marvel has three pictures left on a distribution deal with Paramount before it moves to Disney, and the studio has been churning them out. Iron Man 2 gets released in May, Captain America will begin shooting this summer in Europe, Thor is in production, and Marvel Studios just set Pete Sollett to direct Runaways, based on the comic book series created by Lost writer Brian K. Vaughan. Whedon has written installments of the latter, so he knows how to make those superheros fly. Marvel has considered all of the individual superhero movies to be an intro to The Avengers, so the wanna-see on this one will be huge. The film will be released in the first weekend of May, 2012."

Well, personally, I think this is AWESOME! Joss is amazing, and Serenity is one of my favorite movies. Though he hasn't done anything as big as The Avengers, I have faith in him! Fingers crossed!
Liv on the other hand, is kind of torn: "One on side, I love Joss. I think his shows and his webseries have been great, but I am not sure if he is ready to take on something this huge. I mean, in the eyes of the fans The Avengers is going to be a movie of epic magnitude. So if it isn't perfect, it could go totally wrong."

In the end, all we can do is hope. The Avengers is a big f**cking deal, and I agree with Liv that one imperfection can ruin the whole movie. What do you guys think?

Iron Man 2.

Let me just start off by saying this: 24 more days :D
Now when I say 24 more days, I am referring to the wait until May 7th, which is the date Iron Man 2 comes out. When Iron Man first came out, I didn't think that much of it. I thought about the comic book hero and said "Well..how can this be a good movie?" I hadn't even seen the trailer. But I went with my family to the cinema anyways, and came out a new person. The movie was funny, exciting, and fun. It turned out to be something I had never expected! And with most of the movies he stars in, Robert stole the show. He was his usual witty and attractive self, which is good enough for me! It doesn't matter if you like the movie or not, you have to agree that Robert WAS Tony Stark and played him amazingly.
After seeing the movie, it was safe to say I was hooked. I quickly ran out, got some of the comic books, and basically any merchandise I could get my hands on. Then I heard about the second movie being made, and I was as giddy as a school girl. And whenever a new piece of footage or news or pictures came out I squeeled, and I screamed, and I counted down the days till I could see the movie. Thinking about it now, I must have drove my friends nuts with my little obsession. But I can't help it! Each day, my excitement builds. After a year or so of waiting, the date that I so desire is almost here :) So for anyone that hasn't seen the trailer, here it is:


Iron Man 2, starring Robert Downey Jr, Mickey Rourke, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johanson, Sam Rockwell, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Welcome to our wonderful fanblog, made in honor of the amazing Mr. Robert Downey Jr.
The idea of this website was conceived earlier this morning by my good friend, and co-website runner Donnia. She had been on a Sherlock Holmes binge and wanted to make a website where she could let her fangirl side run wild, and me being a long term RDJ fangirl could not reject this idea. We are not looking to accomplish anything with this blog, other then to have fun, meet other fans, and show respect to one of the best actors in Hollywood.
